What is a Vehicle Fitness Certificate?
A Vehicle Fitness Certificate (FC) is an official document issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) certifying that a vehicle is roadworthy and meets all safety and emission standards prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The fitness test evaluates various aspects of the vehicle including engine condition, brakes, lights, horn, steering, emission levels, and overall structural integrity. A vehicle that passes the fitness test is considered safe to operate on public roads.
For commercial vehicles, the fitness certificate must be renewed annually. For private vehicles, the fitness test is required when renewing the RC after 15 years. The fitness test is conducted by a Motor Vehicle Inspector at the RTO.
